touring and recording, bringing "roots with quality" to adoring fans

Sometimes referred to as reggae's "greatest
living artist", Jimmy Cliff, the legendary star of the 1973 film
classic, The Harder They Come is interviewed on location in Sag Harbor,
NY in 1988. The program features live footage of Cliff in concert at
Bay Street, performing. "Reggae Down Babylon", "Keep up the Pressure on
Botha", and "Hanging Fire".
Cliff discusses his film roles in, "The

Hailing from Bluefields, on the
English-speaking Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, Soul Vibrations are the
first Nicaraguan reggae group to arise from the Sandinista revolution
to international recognition. This 7-piece band adds timbales to their
mix, delivering heartfelt, tuneful reggae with a message. Interviewed
at the start of their first US tour in 1989, the program documents the
band's debut performance at NYC's landmark world music venue, SOBs.

Mutabaruka is an uncompromising (dub) poet
whose commanding stage presence is matched only by the scathing power
of his words. One of Jamaica's most outspoken reggae artists and
broadcasters, he is interviewed and captured in this 1984 program
performing, Blacks in America, Every Time A ‘Ear de Soun,
Sisters Poem, and Prisoner at New York City's legendary Lone Star
Café.
The cultural segment spotlights dreadlock styling
with
Amaniyea Payne and Yvonne Peters, and Night Nurse reports the Reggae
News and Reviews from Tower Records in Greenwich Village.

Ras Michael represents the Orthodox wing of
the reggae party. The heir apparent to Count Ossie, has at the heart
and foundation of his music, Rastafarian, nyabinghi drumming. This 1990
program explores the Rasta roots of reggae and features Ras Michael and
the Sons of Negus in concert at NYC's heartland venue, Kiliamanjaro,
performing, I'm a Man Just Like You" and "Marriage in Canaan.
Included is an interview & drumming demo
with the artist in
Central Park and a brief look at Rastafarian history with Jah Lloyd, in

Drum and bass are the backbone and heart of
reggae music and Jamaican musicians, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare
may be the most famous drum and bass duo in the world. This prolific
twosome has played on 50,000 tracks and produced and jammed with
artists from all branches of the musical tree.
In this program, the
"Riddim Twins" are interviewed while mixing "Just Dance" at Power Play

Handsworth, Birmingham, immortalized by
Steel Pulse's classic tune, gave rise to several reggae heavywights,
among them celebrated poet, playwright, author, Benjamin Zephaniah, a
wordsmith and master of "dub-poetry". 1989 Interview and performance
pieces were shot in Central Park and environs, NYC: "Dis Poetry", "Sun
City/Blood City", "You Start Turn Green", "The Woman I Love".

Hip-hop and rap historians know that this
contemporary American genre owes a debt to the early toasters and
dee-jays of Jamaican dancehall music.
Reggae Strong stayed up all night
to document this 1986 sound system clash at Brooklyn's infamous
Biltmore Ballroom, between Terrorist Underground and Mini-Mart, two New
York-based outfits represented by General Trees, Sasafrass, Sleepy
Wonder, Early B and a host of local dee-jays.
