"Miss Lou" Bennett (1919 - 2006), widely regarded as the
"Mother of Jamaican Culture", hosts, discussing Jamaican language,
cultural traditions & rituals, such as the "dinky minnie",
Count Ossie, and the roots of reggae.
The program is co-hosted by Junior
Wedderburn, master drummer and leader of Ancient Vibrations, a unique,
Jamaican, musical theatre troupe that explores Kumina, Pocomania and

The first international reggae supergroup to win
a Grammy in 1984, Black Uhuru, exemplifies the militant roots tradition
of the Waterhouse sound. Founding member Duckie Simpson, the constant
force in the group's 34-year evolution, is interviewed in Jamaica and
New York, along with singers, Junior Reid and Puma Jones.
The program includes original concert clips of Black
Uhuru, shot at The Ritz, NYC, in 1986 with Earl Chinna
Smith on guitar and Santa Davis on drums performing, "Conviction or a

him apart from his contemporaries in the dancehall tidal wave of 1990.
An articulate, energetic and comic entertainer, this rapper/DJ/singer
is videotaped at 3G Studios in Manhattan on the set of his music video,
"Family Affair".
Guest artists featured include; Tonto Irie, Willow
Wilson, Africa Bambaata, Sleepy Wonder and assorted local musicians.

The first son of reggae, Ziggy
Marley, and his siblings are at the forefront of
reggae's second generation of standard bearers, and proof that the
guava doesn't fall very far from the tree. Bob Marley's eldest son,
Ziggy is interviewed after the Melody Makers' 1990 summer performance
at Bay Street, in Sag Harbor, NY.
Original concert footage features the band
accompanied by Earl "Chinna" Smith on guitar, performing, "Tumblin'
Down". Video clips include: "What is True, "Let's Have a Good Time,
"All Love", and "Black My Story” (also videotaped live at
1990's Bob Marley Birthday celebration in Kingston).

One of Jamaica's original balladeers, Boris
Gardiner, has had a prolific career as a singer, musician, and
engineer, who's contributed bass, guitar, keyboards and technical
expertise to an astonishing array of musicians and recordings. Best
known for his mellow voice and soulful, lovers rock delivery, this
versatile artist is interviewed in Central Park in 1989.
The program includes an original music video
of "Lovers Lane", and features Boris Gerdiner's
live performance of "I Want to Wake Up With You" and "Let's Take a
Holiday", backed by New York's own A-Team, (Kevin Batchelor Jerry
Johnson, Val Douglas, and Anastas Hackett). Promo videos: Reggae

dancehall artists, is a top-class reggae singer with a distinctive and
often imitated vocal style.
In a career that spans almost 3 decades,
he's produced some of Jamaica's most memorable hits, including, "Under
Mi Sensi", "Here I Come" and "Murderer", all covered in this 1986
concert shot on location in Hartford, CT.
